Watzke will be honored at a ceremony in Berlin on July 10.
Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia Hendrik Wüst will deliver the laudatory speech.
Watzke has been a vocal advocate for the fight against anti-Semitism and racism.
He has also been instrumental in promoting the integration of refugees into German society.
The Leo Baeck Prize was established in 1957 in memory of Rabbi Leo Baeck.
Baeck was a prominent leader of the German Jewish community during the Nazi era.
The prize is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the German-Jewish community.
