Arson: Public US ballot boxes set alight – video said to show perpetrator

US authorities are searching for a man allegedly responsible for setting fire to ballot boxes outside a polling station in the state of Georgia.

A video has been released on social media, purportedly showing a man setting fire to the ballot boxes in the city of Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County.

The incident is believed to have happened on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 – Election Day in the US – and is now being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

In a statement, the GBI said it was "aware of the video" and that it was "actively working to identify and apprehend the suspect."

The GBI also said that it was "working with local law enforcement to increase security at polling places throughout the state." This includes providing additional manpower, as well as increasing patrols in the areas surrounding polling places.

The incident in Georgia is not the only one of its kind to occur in the US in recent weeks. Earlier this month, a ballot drop box was set on fire in California.

These incidents have raised concerns about the security of the US electoral process, and have led to calls for increased security measures at polling places.

The US Department of Justice has said that it is "committed to protecting the integrity of the electoral process" and that it is "working with state and local law enforcement to investigate any threats to the election."

The FBI has also said that it is "aware of the recent incidents of violence and intimidation at polling places" and that it is "working with our partners to investigate these incidents and bring those responsible to justice."

The National Association of State Election Directors (NASED) has also issued a statement, saying that it is "concerned about the recent incidents of violence and intimidation at polling places" and that it is "working with state and local election officials to ensure the safety and security of voters."

NASED has also said that it is "committed to protecting the integrity of the electoral process" and that it is "working to ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast their ballot safely and securely."

The US election system is widely regarded as one of the most secure in the world. However, the recent incidents have raised concerns about the potential for voter intimidation and fraud.

It is important to note that these incidents are isolated and that the vast majority of polling places in the US are safe and secure.

If you are concerned about the safety of voting in your area, you can contact your local election officials. You can also find more information about the security of the US election system on the website of the National Association of State Election Directors.
