UTOPIA ORCHESTRA, TEODOR CURRENTZIS, AND THE DISCOVERY OF MUSIC

The Freiburg Baroque Orchestra opens the 2020 Festspielhaus Baden-Baden Easter Festival together with the new artistic director Teodor Currentzis. The program includes “Le tombeau de Couperin” by Maurice Ravel, “Trois poèmes de Stéphane Mallarmé” by Claude Debussy, and “Daphnis et Chloé – Suite No. 1” by Maurice Ravel. The soloists are Elsa Dreisig (flute), Emmanuel Pahud (flute), Albrecht Mayer (oboe), and Radovan Vlatković (clarinet).

The UTOPIA Orchestra consists of members from the most prestigious orchestras of Europe, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra was founded in 2004 by Teodor Currentzis, and its mission is to promote the discovery of music in new and innovative ways. The orchestra regularly commissions new works from leading contemporary composers, and it has a strong commitment to educational outreach.

TEODOR CURRENTZIS: A VISIONARY CONDUCTOR

Teodor Currentzis is one of the most acclaimed conductors of his generation. He is known for his intense and passionate performances, and his ability to bring out the beauty and depth of music. Currentzis has led some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
