Bayern outmaneuvered: Leverkusen signs new player
Strong competition for the record champions
Bayer Leverkusen has signed Adam Hložek from Sparta Prague. The Czech attacker will move to the Werkself for a transfer fee of 22.5 million euros in the summer. The 20-year-old has signed a contract until 2027.
Hložek is considered one of the greatest talents in the Czech Republic. In 137 competitive games for Sparta, he scored 40 goals and provided 34 assists. In the current season, he has scored nine goals and provided 15 assists in 20 games.
Bayer Leverkusen prevails against Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich was also interested in signing Hložek. However, Leverkusen was able to prevail in the race for the attacker. One reason for this is Hložek's good relationship with Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso. The two know each other from the Spanish national team.
Hložek is Bayer Leverkusen's first signing for the summer of 2023. The Werkself are hoping that the Czech will help them qualify for the Champions League again. Last season, Leverkusen finished third in the Bundesliga, just one point behind Bayern Munich.
