Borussia Dortmund loses again away - but this time everything is even worse
Another disappointing away performance by Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund has once again failed to win away from home, losing 2-1 to Mainz 05 on Saturday. The defeat means that Dortmund has now lost four of its last five away games in all competitions.
Dortmund took the lead in the first half through Karim Adeyemi, but Mainz equalized in the second half through a penalty from Ludovic Ajorque. Mainz then scored the winning goal in the 87th minute through Delano Burgzorg.
Dortmund's away form is a major concern
Dortmund's poor away form is a major concern for manager Edin Terzic. Dortmund has now won just one of its last nine away games in all competitions.
Dortmund's next away game is against Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday. Dortmund will be hoping to improve its away form and get a positive result against the English champions.
What went wrong for Dortmund?
Dortmund was the better team in the first half and took a deserved lead through Adeyemi. However, Dortmund's performance dropped off in the second half and Mainz took advantage.
Dortmund's defense was poor for both of Mainz's goals. Dortmund also failed to create many chances in the second half and Mainz was able to see out the victory.
What does the defeat mean for Dortmund?
The defeat means that Dortmund is now sixth in the Bundesliga, five points behind leaders Bayern Munich. Dortmund's hopes of winning the Bundesliga title are now very slim.
The defeat also raises questions about Terzic's future as Dortmund manager. Terzic has been under pressure for some time and the defeat to Mainz will only increase the speculation about his future.
