Lorch - A car driver is believed to have overlooked a motorbike at an intersection in Lorch, Ostalbkreis, on Sunday afternoon. According to the police, a 46-year-old female motorcyclist was driving along Kreisstrasse in the direction of Lorch when she was struck by a car.
According to the initial findings of the police, the 53-year-old car driver wanted to turn left into the Kreisstrasse from Landesstrasse at around 4 pm. Due to the ongoing road works, the traffic was backed up on the Landesstrasse. When the traffic started moving again, the car driver turned left and is thought to have failed to see the oncoming motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist tried to brake and avoid a crash, but without success. She crashed into the car's side and was thrown from her bike onto the road.
The woman suffered serious injuries in the accident. An emergency doctor provided medical assistance at the scene before she was flown to a nearby clinic by rescue helicopter. The car driver was not injured.
The road had to be closed for around an hour during the rescue work and the recording of the accident. The police have launched an investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
