Deggendorfer SC stumbles towards tenth win – Slapstick own goal initiates the Black Hawks’ defeat

Deggendorf grabs tenth win in a row, but win is overshadowed by slapstick error

Deggendorf’s winning streak continues. On Saturday evening, the Black Hawks celebrated their tenth win in a row. With a 4:3 against Höchstadt, the Lower Bavarians secured their place in the playoff quarterfinals early on. However, the joy about the tenth win in a row was overshadowed by a slapstick mistake.

The Black Hawks actually found their way into the game very well and took an early 1-0 lead through Stephan Kronthaler. After the guests from Höchstadt had equalized, Deggendorf managed to regain the lead shortly before the break through captain Andreas Gawlik. But just 18 seconds later, the Black Hawks gave the equalizer back as if from the textbook – after a completely failed pass from Stephan Kronthaler to his goalie Timo Pielmeier.

Just 32 seconds into the final period, the Black Hawks actually managed to regain the lead, but Höchstadt equalized again in the 44th minute. Again the answer from the Black Hawks followed promptly: Marcus Marsall scored to make it 4:3 in the 45th minute and thus secured the three points for Deggendorf.

In the end, the tenth (!) consecutive win for the Black Hawks was overshadowed by the slapstick error before the break. The goal, which Höchstadt’s Taylor Carnevale scored after the mistake, ultimately secured the guests a point – a point that Deggendorf could have won with a little more attention.

Unnecessary point loss due to avoidable mistake

Ultimately, the Black Hawks can be happy about the tenth win in a row, but the point loss is avoidable and unnecessary. With a little more concentration and attention, it would have been possible to win the game a little more clearly. Deggendorf coach Jiri Ehrenberger was also annoyed by the unnecessary point loss: “Of course, we are happy about the tenth win in a row, but the goal before the break was unnecessary. We have to avoid such mistakes in the future.”

The Black Hawks will have the opportunity to improve this on Tuesday when they meet EHC Klostersee at home. Klostersee is currently in eleventh place in the standings, but has already shown this season that they can keep up with the top teams in the league. Therefore, the Black Hawks are warned and must not take the game lightly. With a win, Deggendorf could take another step towards the championship round.
