DFB-Pokal: Leverkusen cruises past Paderborn; Leipzig survives scare

Bayer Leverkusen eased into the second round of the DFB-Pokal with a comfortable 3-0 win over third-tier side Paderborn on Tuesday, while RB Leipzig survived a scare to edge past fourth-tier Teutonia Ottensen 4-2.

Leverkusen, who are enjoying a strong start to the Bundesliga season under new coach Xabi Alonso, were never troubled by Paderborn and took the lead in the 16th minute through Czech midfielder Adam Hlozek.

French forward Moussa Diaby doubled the lead just after the half-hour mark with a stunning solo effort, cutting inside from the right flank and curling a shot into the top corner.

The visitors sealed the victory in the 64th minute when German forward Karim Bellarabi tapped in a rebound after Diaby's initial effort was saved.

Leipzig, who are also flying high in the Bundesliga under new coach Marco Rose, had to work harder for their win against Teutonia Ottensen.

The hosts took a shock lead in the 10th minute through Pascal Testroet, but Leipzig hit back with two goals in quick succession from Timo Werner and Christopher Nkunku.

Teutonia Ottensen refused to give up and equalized in the 71st minute through Testroet's second goal of the game.

However, Leipzig eventually proved too strong and secured their progress with two late goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Emil Forsberg.
