East Bengal FC continued their impressive run in the AFC Challenge League with a 2-0 victory over Bashundhara Kings at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Wednesday. This win marks the Kolkata club's second consecutive victory in the competition.
The match began with both teams looking to take control of the midfield. East Bengal FC slowly started to dominate possession and created a few half-chances in the opening 15 minutes. However, it was Bashundhara Kings who came close to scoring the opening goal in the 20th minute when Hernan Barcos's shot from inside the box was saved by East Bengal FC goalkeeper Suvam Sen.
East Bengal FC took the lead against the run of play in the 25th minute through a stunning left-footed strike from midfielder Kamaljit Singh. The Indian international received the ball just outside the box and unleashed a powerful shot that flew into the top corner of the net, leaving Bashundhara Kings goalkeeper Anisur Rahman with no chance.
The Kolkata club doubled their lead in the 60th minute when Mahesh Singh Tomar headed home a cross from Mohammad Rafique. Tomar's glancing header found the bottom corner of the net, giving East Bengal FC a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Bashundhara Kings tried to find a way back into the match, but they were unable to break down the resolute East Bengal FC defense. The Kolkata club held on to their lead and secured a well-deserved victory.
With this win, East Bengal FC moved to the top of the AFC Challenge League table with six points from two matches. Bashundhara Kings, on the other hand, remained in third place with three points from two matches.
