Edzard Reuter: Former Daimler CEO Dies

Former Daimler CEO Edzard Reuter has died at the age of 93. Reuter led the German automaker from 1987 to 1995, a period of significant change for the company.

Reuter was born in Wuppertal, Germany, in 1928. He studied engineering at the University of Stuttgart and began his career at Daimler in 1956.

Under Reuter's leadership, Daimler expanded its global reach and introduced several new models, including the Mercedes-Benz W124 and W140. He also oversaw the company's acquisition of Chrysler in 1998.

However, Reuter's tenure was also marked by financial difficulties and labor unrest. In 1995, he was forced to resign after a failed attempt to merge Daimler with aerospace company Deutsche Aerospace.

After leaving Daimler, Reuter served as chairman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Telekom and as president of the German Association of the Automotive Industry.

Reuter was a controversial figure, but he is widely credited with modernizing Daimler and helping to make it one of the world's leading automakers.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene, and their three children.
