Italian town of Esslingen plans memorial march for victims after deadly accident
Mourners to gather in memory of those killed in bus crash
The Italian town of Esslingen is planning a memorial march for the victims of a deadly bus accident that killed eight people and injured dozens more. The march is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 27, and will start at the site of the accident on the A81 motorway.
The accident happened on August 24 when a bus carrying a group of Italian tourists from the town of Moncalieri crashed into a truck. The bus was on its way to the German city of Stuttgart when it collided with the truck, which was carrying a load of steel.
The force of the impact caused the bus to overturn and many of the passengers were thrown from the vehicle. Eight people were killed at the scene and dozens more were injured, some of them seriously.
The memorial march will start at 10am at the site of the accident and will proceed to the town center. A memorial service will be held at the town square, where the names of the victims will be read out.
The mayor of Esslingen, Jürgen Zieger, said that the memorial march was a way for the community to come together and mourn the loss of the victims.
"This was a terrible tragedy that has touched the hearts of everyone in Esslingen," Zieger said. "We want to show our support for the families of the victims and let them know that we are here for them."
The memorial march is expected to be attended by hundreds of people, including local residents, relatives of the victims, and members of the Italian community in Germany.
