Konsum Dresden becomes part of Edeka

Dresden, March 8, 2023 - Merger of two strong regional players

Dresden's largest food retailer, Konsum Dresden eG, is becoming part of the Edeka Group. The merger agreement was signed today by the chairmen of both companies, Andreas Mutzke (Konsum Dresden) and Markus Mosa (Edeka).

The merger is still subject to approval by the Federal Cartel Office. With the merger, Edeka is strengthening its presence in Saxony and expanding its position as the leading food retailer in Germany.

Konsum Dresden is one of the largest food retailers in Saxony, with 134 branches and around 2,800 employees. The company generated sales of around 700 million euros in 2022.

Edeka is Germany's largest food retailer, with around 11,300 branches and around 370,000 employees. The group generated sales of around 61 billion euros in 2022.

The merger of Konsum Dresden and Edeka is a logical step for both companies. Konsum Dresden will benefit from Edeka's strong purchasing power and logistics network. Edeka, in turn, will gain access to Konsum Dresden's strong presence in Saxony.
