The Early Years
The history of Mercedes-Benz Group can be traced back to 1886, when Karl Benz invented the first internal combustion engine-powered automobile.
In 1890, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach developed the first four-wheeled automobile.
In 1926, Benz & Cie. and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft merged to form Daimler-Benz AG.
The Edzard Reuter Era
Edzard Reuter was the CEO of Daimler-Benz AG from 1987 to 1995.
During his tenure, the company expanded its global presence and introduced several new models, including the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
Reuter also oversaw the development of the company's first electric vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz 190E Elektro.
The Daimler-Benz Merger
In 1998, Daimler-Benz AG merged with Chrysler Corporation to form DaimlerChrysler AG.
The merger was intended to create a global automotive giant, but it was ultimately unsuccessful.
In 2007, DaimlerChrysler AG sold Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management and changed its name to Daimler AG.
