Milan falters again: league leaders Napoli triumph at San Siro
San Siro, Milan - Napoli extended their lead at the top of the Serie A standings on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over AC Milan at the iconic San Siro stadium.
Goals from Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia helped Napoli secure the win, moving them eight points clear of second-placed Inter Milan. Olivier Giroud scored a late consolation goal for Milan.
The result marked Napoli's fifth consecutive league victory and extended their unbeaten run to 15 matches in all competitions. Milan, meanwhile, have now lost three of their last five league games, damaging their title hopes.
Napoli took the lead in the 12th minute when Osimhen slotted home from close range after being set up by Kvaratskhelia. The visitors doubled their advantage just seven minutes later when Kvaratskhelia curled a magnificent effort into the top corner.
Milan pulled one back in the 69th minute through Giroud's header, but Napoli held on for the victory. The Rossoneri had chances to equalize late on, but they were unable to find a way past the resolute Napoli defense.
The victory was a big statement from Napoli, who are now the clear favorites to win the Serie A title. Milan, meanwhile, will need to turn their form around quickly if they want to stay in the race.
