Burgdorf man missing in Japan

Since August 20, a 65-year-old man from Burgdorf in the Hanover region has been missing while on vacation in Japan. The Foreign Office confirmed this on Monday, August 22. The man's family reported him missing after he failed to return to his hotel in Tokyo's Shinjuku district on August 20.

Extensive search operation

The Japanese authorities have launched a comprehensive search operation involving police, fire brigades, and volunteers. The man's backpack and personal belongings were found at the foot of Mount Takao, a popular hiking destination near Tokyo. However, there has been no trace of the man himself.

The German embassy in Tokyo is in close contact with the Japanese authorities and the man's family. The embassy is providing consular assistance and supporting the search efforts.

The missing man is described as being about 1.8 meters tall, with a slim build and short, gray hair. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, gray pants, and hiking boots.

Anyone with information about the missing man is asked to contact the German embassy in Tokyo or the nearest Japanese police station.
