Moment BMW EQS driver involved in deadly motorway accident while 'watching film'

A BMW driver was caught watching a film on his mobile phone moments before he was involved in a fatal crash on the motorway.

The 24-year-old has been jailed after admitting causing the death of David Gilbey,65, on the M4 near Reading in Berkshire.

Dashcam footage shows the BMW veering from lane to lane while David Moore-Moore, from Didcot, Oxfordshire, watches a film on his phone.

Moments later, his car smashed into David Gilbey, who was driving a Nissan Qashqai, and shunted him into the central reservation at around 7.30pm on April 16.

Mr Gilbey suffered serious injuries and died in hospital two days later.

Moore-Moore, who was driving a white BMW EQS, initially denied causing death by dangerous driving but changed his plea on the day of his trial.

He was jailed for four years and banned from driving for five years and 10 months.

Investigating officer, PC Darren Baker of Thames Valley Police, said: “David Moore-Moore’s actions behind the wheel of his car that day were beyond reckless and selfish.

"He made the appalling decision to watch a film on his mobile phone while driving at speed on a busy motorway, and as a result an innocent man has lost his life and his family and friends have been left devastated.

“I hope this case serves as a stark reminder to all drivers of the importance of paying full attention to the road and the potentially fatal consequences of using a mobile phone while driving."
