Porsche Unveils Lightweight, Manual Transmission Carrera T
Stuttgart, Germany
Porsche has unveiled the latest iteration of its iconic 911 sports car, the Carrera T, which combines a lightweight body with a manual transmission for an enhanced driving experience.
The Carrera T (Touring) is designed for purists who appreciate the tactile engagement of a manual gearbox and the thrill of a lightweight chassis. It is based on the Carrera GTS, but with a focus on shedding weight and improving handling dynamics.
The Carrera T features a number of weight-saving measures, including lightweight glass, reduced sound insulation, and the removal of the rear seats. These modifications result in a weight reduction of around 35 kilograms compared to the standard Carrera GTS. The car also comes standard with a mechanical limited-slip differential and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) for improved traction and cornering stability.
The heart of the Carrera T is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing 450 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, mated to a seven-speed manual transmission.
Porsche claims a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top track speed of 181 mph with the manual transmission.
Visually, the Carrera T is distinguished by its unique SportDesign front fascia, blacked-out trim, and 20-inch Carrera S wheels. Inside, the car features sport seats with extended side bolsters, a GT Sport steering wheel, and a shortened shift lever. The Carrera T is available in four colors: Black, White, Red, and Guards Red.
The Porsche 911 Carrera T is priced from €117,635 (approximately $129,000) in Germany. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2023.
