AC Milan produced a convincing performance to earn a 3-1 victory over Monza
AC Milan secured a valuable 3-1 victory over newly-promoted Monza in their Serie A clash on Sunday to close the gap on league leaders Napoli.
The Rossoneri started brightly and took the lead through Junior Messias's close-range finish in the 11th minute. Rafael Leao doubled Milan's advantage in the 41st minute when he slotted home a penalty.
Divock Origi put the game beyond doubt with a third goal for Milan in the 65th minute
Monza pulled one back through Dany Mota in the 70th minute, but it was too little too late for the hosts as Milan held on to secure all three points.
The win moves Milan up to second place in the Serie A standings, just three points behind Napoli. Monza, meanwhile, remain in 15th place.
Napoli remain top of Serie A despite defeat to Inter Milan
Napoli's lead at the top of Serie A was cut to three points after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan in the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday.
The only goal of the game came in the 34th minute when Lautaro Martinez headed home from a cross by Nicolo Barella.
Despite the defeat, Napoli remain top of the Serie A standings with 47 points from 20 games. Inter Milan are second with 44 points from 20 games.
Juventus move up to third place with win over Udinese
Juventus moved up to third place in Serie A with a comfortable 1-0 victory over Udinese on Sunday.
The only goal of the game came in the 58th minute when Danilo headed home from a cross by Adrien Rabiot.
The win moves Juventus up to third place in the Serie A standings with 37 points from 20 games.
