VfB Stuttgart in the DFB Cup: A dream start with a bitter end

VfB Stuttgart started the DFB Cup with an away win at Dynamo Dresden. The Swabians won 2-0 (2-0) on Saturday and thus made it into the second round of the cup competition.

Goals from Serhou Guirassy (20th minute) and Naouirou Ahamada (29th) put VfB on the road to victory in the first half. After the break, the Swabians defended their lead skillfully and did not allow the hosts any major chances.

Bitterer Ausfall von Mavropanos

The only downside for VfB Stuttgart was the injury to Konstantinos Mavropanos. The Greek central defender had to be substituted in the 30th minute with a muscle problem. The extent of the injury is still unclear.

In the second round of the DFB Cup, VfB Stuttgart will now meet Arminia Bielefeld. The game will take place on October 18 or 19. The exact date and time have not yet been determined.

Statements to the game

Pellegrino Matarazzo (VfB Stuttgart coach): "We played a very good first half and deservedly took the lead. After the break, we defended our lead well and did not allow Dynamo any major chances. The only downside was the injury to Konstantinos Mavropanos. We hope that it is not too serious." Markus Anfang (Dynamo Dresden coach): "We started the game well and had some good chances. But then we made two mistakes and VfB punished us for it. After the break, we tried to come back into the game, but we didn't manage to create any more clear-cut chances." Serhou Guirassy (VfB Stuttgart scorer): "I am happy that I was able to score the opening goal. It was an important win for us. We are now in the second round of the DFB Cup and want to continue our journey."
