Traffic Light Fails, Pedestrian Struck and Killed in New York City
Fatal Accident Occurs at Intersection of 5th Avenue and 53rd Street

A pedestrian was tragically killed in a traffic accident in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday evening. The incident occurred at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 53rd Street when a traffic light malfunctioned, causing a vehicle to enter the intersection against a red light.
The victim, a 55-year-old woman, was crossing the street with the right of way when she was struck by the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
The New York City Police Department is investigating the accident. Preliminary reports indicate that the traffic light was malfunctioning at the time of the incident. The city's Department of Transportation is also investigating to determine the cause of the malfunction and to ensure that all traffic lights in the area are functioning properly.

This is the second fatal pedestrian accident in New York City this week. On Monday, a 6-year-old boy was killed when he was struck by a car in Brooklyn.
